Nawal - Nawal 1998

Nawal's 1998 album is another solid effort from Kuwait's top female vocalist. As always, the album has top names in the list of composers. Saudi singer-songwriter Rabeh Sagr composed three songs, La Shak Terdhini, Hobbek Aadi, and Nesani. Top composers like Kuwaiti Abdallah El Gaoud and Saudi Nasser El Saleh are here too with Tedhak Wana Abki (El Gaoud), as well as Ana El Mas'oul and Ya Sidehom (El Saleh). Mish'al El Orouj, who composed most of Nawal's hits in the past decade, has one song, Tekfoun Khallouh. The entire album is arranged by Egyptian musician Tarek Aakef and produced by Rabeh Sagr and Mish'al El Orouj.

Nawal - Nawal 2009

Nawal's long-awaited follow-up to Nawal 2006 has finally arrived, and it is definitely good. As always, Nawal has an infectiously catchy single, and the rest of the album is filled with well-chosen lyrics, and generally mellow music. Mou Liya, like El Shoug Jabek, Bi Yahsedouni Aleih, and Tammen Galbak before it, is infectiously catchy and goes places Nawal has never been before. After joining Nawal on his compositions like El Shou Jabek and Fel Bedaya, Mish'al El Orouj returns even more prominently in Mou Liya, although it is his only composition here. On this album, Nawal's Egyptian song is composed by Walid Saad, after working with the late Riyad El Hamshari on her past two albums. Bahraini arranger Sirouz has much more prominent presence on Nawal 2009 than any other arranger, a fact this listener doesn't like, but listening to the work Khaled Ez and Hani Farhat do on Hathi Jedida, Wein Antehi, and Khed'a, or İsmail Tunçbilek does on Mou Liya is gratifying enough to forget it. Sah is another beautiful song, combining Turki's meaningful lyrics with Sahm's skillful composition (which he already proved in Asalah's 2007 album, Sawaha Galbi), and Essam El Sharaiti & Hani Farhat's arrangement. Nawal 2009 caters to those who like the polished Nawal as much as it does to those who like the rougher, more old school Nawal.

Nawal - Nawal 2002

Nawal's 2002 album brought with it one of her first pan-Arab hits, El Shoug Jabek (Love Brought You), which is an interesting musical meld of Latin and Egyptian styles. It is also one of her most extensive collaborations with Egyptian composer/arranger Tarek Aakef, who arranged six of the eleven tracks. Unlike her last two releases, western influences are scarce in this album, and she employs Khaliji and Egyptian styles throughout the album.

Nawal - Nawal 2006

Nawal, or Nawal El Kuwaitia as she has come to be called recently, has been professionally singing for a quarter of a century now. Her ever-changing style started with traditional Khaliji songs, but today her portfolio boasts a wide range of styles, including western-influenced Khaliji ballads, Moroccan, Egyptian, and pop. Nawal's first attempt at the Moroccan dialect, the hit Tammen Galbak, is included, the hit Tammen Galbak. The first single, Inta Tayeb, and Gelli Meta are arranged by Egyptian arrangers Khaled Ezz and Hani Farhat, like the majority of Asalah's 2007 Khaliji album. Fel Bedaya is an interesting track which uses a vast number of instruments, including the clarinet, violin, ney, kanun, piano and accordion, coupled with various percussions, Egyptian and Khaliji. The songs with a purely Khaliji feel to them are arranged by Tarek Aakef, who despite his Egyptian origin is no stranger to Khaliji music. Tefadhal is a typical Khaliji dance song, while Dekhil El Hob and Ala Keifah are mellower, but all are instantly recognizable as Aakef's work. The remaining songs are in Nawal's signature style, Khaliji but always with international influences, ranging from Latin to Egyptian.
